I have a couple in pots, so that I can move them if it gets too hot. I don’t have much shade in my garden! Mine are the paniculata type, with long elongated flowers. 😃
I don’t think I’ve seen them! I have one hydrangea in dappled shade and the other gets full sun. During summer, the one in the sun gets droopy leaves if I don’t water it every day. They are thirsty plants.
They are. I just remembered I have one planted near my gate too, but I rarely remember to water it and it isn’t doing too well. I must give it more attantion this year!
Summer heat is an issue but the crux of the problem is that they’re too thirsty. Only my cutting garden gets a lot of water – everything else needs to get along with the bare minimum.
We have decent luck with citrus trees, guavas and persimmons. Stone fruit trees don’t do well. I used to grow tomatoes and peas in what’s now my cutting garden but then it gets extra water. Other than herbs, vegetables wouldn’t survive in my general garden beds.
Beautiful hydrangea, Joanne. One of my favourite shrubs, can’t wait until mine flower!

Let me know how it goes. Hopefully you will get enough flowers for a Monday vase even. 😊

So do I! This plant is around twenty-five years old and still growing well. 🙂

Very pretty, Jo. I’ve given up even trying to grow them in my arear.

That’s a shame, Kris. Is it too hot in summer for them? Mine seem to have adapted to the position I have planted them.

They do need plenty of water. Can you grow edible crops, such as fruit trees and vegetables?

That’s a shame. I have a pomegranate tree which doesn’t get much attention but fruits every year. Maybe you’d have luck with those.
