Alternative Beauty

My office is still out of action, therefore my desktop computer is still unplugged, unavailable, and collecting dust in a room where it doesn’t belong …

This morning I took photos of a beautiful soft pink sunrise sky above the mountain. Below, caught in crevices of the ranges and base of the mountain, drifts of mist gathered in deep blue folds. It was a beautiful sight to wake up to.

Sadly, the photo I took on my iPhone turned out to be a one-second video, which WordPress will not allow me to upload. I’m just not knowledgeable enough with iPhones to know if there is some way of rectifying the problem, so I will have to add today’s photo when my desktop computer is back in action.

Meanwhile, WordPress seems to like the photo I took of a beautiful rainbow lorikeet! So that is my alternate photo for today.

Husband will be home for the weekend, so by tomorrow afternoon I hope we will have my office sorted. There’s a few maintenance chores husband wants to get to in the room while it’s empty, so hopefully they won’t take too long to do.

A Short Love Story of Two Rainbow Lorikeets

There was no rain today, but the mountain and ranges were beautifully crisp and clear, as if they had been washed clean by yesterday morning’s downpour.

While standing at my kitchen window at breakfast time, two rainbow lorikeets crashed – gently, thank goodness – into my large glass door which leads into the garden. As strange as it seems, they both came back and did it again! It was as if they wanted to come inside the house.

I always have a dish of water on an old table out the back for the birds, and the other day I added a dish of bird seed too. One of the lorikeets, which I assume was the female, jumped up onto the table and investigated both dishes, taking a drink of water, while the other lorikeet bobbed around the table doing a strange sort of dance. This bird, I assume, was a male.

After a couple of minutes of seemingly ignoring her suitor’s advances, the female turned to him, they wrapped their heads around each others body – this is the last photo – then away they flew!

And now I’m back to essay writing. But I just had to pause and share my cute little story today. 🙂

The Year I Didn’t Blog

I knew I hadn’t added a new post for quite a while, but nearly a whole year?

With nothing prepared, I thought I’d show you some new additions to the garden – two baby kookaburras who are filled with a contrasting mixture of adventure and hesitation as they explore their new surroundings.

When you’ve been feeding and taking photos of birds as long as I have, it’s easy enough to read their expressions. A head tilted in curiosity is easy body-language for anyone to understand though.

Now he’s wondering if he should be concerned by my clicking camera!

Here are the two babies together, looking as cute as can be with their pigeon toed feet and perfect, fluffy feathers.

This photo clearly shows the detail in their darker, back feathers. I think they’re gorgeous!

As you can see from the water clinging to the glass fence – also a new addition to the garden since I last added a post here – we’ve had some summer rain, which has cooled the earth down beautifully. We’ve even felt a few cool breezes in the morning air lately – a sign of an early winter approaching? I do hope so! Our summer heat is so intense, so by February I’m always begging winter to arrive early.

Here’s one advantage to summer – we don’t see skies quite as brilliant as this during the winter. Look at those cloud colours and formations – magical!

During 2017, my main focus was on family, home and university study, leaving little, if any, time for anything else (my lack of blogging is proof of that!) I never had a moment to feel bored throughout “the year I didn’t blog” and while I will talk about some of the events that took place during my absence, there are some things too private to talk about and best left where they belong – in the past.

Wherever my blogging friends are around the world, I wish you all the very best of everything your heart desires during 2018!
